Volunteer Spotlight:  Denyse Conant

Denyse Conant is one of Lund Family Center’s most active and appreciated volunteers.  Denyse is the mother of three children and lives in Colchester with her husband Chris.  The couple are part owners of Claussen’s Greenhouse where she worked as the office manager for many years.  The business has specialized in delivering customers flowering annuals, perennials, and seasonal flowering plants for more than 35 years, and offers the largest selection of tropical foliage and flowering houseplants in Chittenden County.  Denyse also loves the outdoors and enjoys skiing (both downhill and water), tennis, walking, swimming, and yoga.

Born and raised in Vermont, Denyse has known about Lund Family Center and its mission to help children and families thrive since she was a young girl.  Denyse often discussed the possibility of taking care of babies through one of Lund Family Center’s programs with her daughter before she began volunteering.

During the past three years, Denyse was no longer able to work full-time because of serious health issues.  Interested in finding a useful and productive way to give back to the community, Denyse began volunteering weekly at Lund Family Center in November 2009.  She has volunteered at Lund Family Center for over a year, assisting Lund with administrative work, donor recognition, and the organization of annual fundraising events such as the Mother’s Day Bike Ride and Mad Hatter’s Tea and Bubbly celebration in June.

In addition to volunteering at Lund, Denyse served on the Colchester Recreation Board for seven years, and the Colchester Reparative Board for three years.  She also coached youth basketball and softball while her children were growing up.

Denyse’s extensive volunteer experience is evidence of her desire to stay busy and lend a helping hand in the Chittenden County community wherever help is most needed.  Thanks to her enthusiastic help, Lund Family Center has been able to carry on its 120 year mission to help children and families thrive.

Volunteer Opportunities!

Sensory Board Construction

Lund’s Early Childhood Program is looking for volunteers to build three sensory boards.  Sensory boards allow children to stimulate their senses through touch.  Sensory boards are typically created by mounting objects of different textures (e.g. brushes, turning knobs, shells, fabrics) onto a large piece of ply wood.

Ball Run Construction

Lund’s Early Childhood Program is also looking for volunteers to build a ball run.  A ball run is a series of secured tubes or ramps that a ball or marble can follow along a set path.
