Third Annual Mother’s Day Ride Raises $100,000 for VT Children and Families
By Paulette Thabault, Mother’s Day Ride Committee Chair

Our third annual Mother’s Day Ride was a great success and I want to thank each of you for your tremendous support and enthusiasm for this event. We raised more than $100,000 and had a real community showing with new riders and sponsors alike!

This year we focused on organizing ride teams with Peter Gunther’s leadership and my assessment is that this effort was successful not only in raising funds but also for increasing awareness about Lund programs. In chairing the event, I gained an even deeper appreciation for the work that goes on everyday at Lund as well as the truly remarkable committed staff and volunteers.  The event…

·Secured 20 new sponsors with the help of our Committee, Board, sponsorship leader L. J. Nieulant, Tom Mackin at TFM Construction, Lisa Bodette at Northern Benefits, and Andrew Martin at Pizzagalli Construction;
·Engaged 100 volunteers ;
·Forged new relationships with Green Mountain Coffee, Daily Chocolate, Goodie Goodies and more!

An anonymous donor graciously pledged a $5,000 Challenge Grant for the Ride! Congratulations to Burlington Labs and the Katie and David Halsey Team of “Bisby Bikers” for raising $2,500 each and leveraging an extra $2,500 for their team fundraising total!

I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to work with Jen, Kitty, Alex and the entire planning committee. Thank you to Lisa and Katie from the board for your work on the event and to everyone who participated on bikes and on the sidelines cheering. Thanks to Sherry, Sara, Katie, Lisa, Dawn and Tom for your help raising critical sponsorship dollars and in-kind commitments. Thanks to Aimee, Sara, Karen and their families for riding, Jeff for his emcee voice and television time, TJ for getting us set-up with the local police and Barb for managing the crowds. Thank you to Linda Barker and the Citizen’s Bank team for coordinating all the rest stops, Daphne Hard for coordinating the event’s technical details, and Andy Barker for the Boloco burritos and smoothies and for coordinating all of the food for the Ride.

Eileen, thanks for staying until the bitter end to count, and triple count the day’s take. And Gene, thanks for working the crowds and driving our lead photographer Julie Richards around the countryside to capture great images of riders. Gene and Denise Vignoe from Spruce Mortgage have helped position this event as a major fundraiser for Lund and fantastic family event that engages children, and as many men as women.
