On June 7, 2011 more that 150 students, families, friends, Lund Family Center staff and Board of Trustees members gathered to celebrate student and resident accomplishments at the 2011 Honoring Ceremony. WCAX was there as well to cover the story.

The event celebrated academic achievements through the New Horizons Educational Program (NHEP), an alternative high school and educational program for pregnant and parenting teenagers and young women. NHEP presented certificates to three High School Graduates, three students for GED Completion, and three college-bound students enrolled at CCV. Three more students were acknowledged for their work with Dyhana Bradley from the College Connections Linking Learning to Life Program, which supports high school students making the transition into college.

The ceremony also recognized over 20 women who had participated in successful job placement and 12 women who served as members of the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Outreach Team. The Outreach Team travels throughout Vermont presenting to middle and high school classes about the realities of being pregnant and/or parenting at a young age. The Outreach Team also welcomed three new members to the group.

A highlight of the event was the ceremony’s Keynote Speaker, Dawn LeBaron, Vice President of Hospital Services at Fletcher Allen Health Care and Lund Family Center Board of Trustee Member, who shared her special connection to LFC; it was her first home before being adopted as a young child.

The much-anticipated Kit Stone Humanitarian Award, given annually to a young woman who has taken the opportunities presented to her and made them work for herself, her peers and her family, was presented as well.

The 2011 Honoring Ceremony was also pleased to welcome Maggie Gendron, Field Representative for Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) and Susan Elliot, Community Liaison for the Office of Rep. Peter Welch (D-Vt.) to the event.
