How can we forget the first time we met Hampton Direct: It was during our holiday gift giving two winters ago when Hampton Direct came up with the idea to sponsor Lund families in need. They dropped off three carloads of neatly wrapped gifts, sponsored not 1 but 6 families, and apologized for going over-board with the wish lists.

Hampton Direct could not have been more deserving of the “Hometown Hero Best Business Award” presented to them during United Way’s Annual awards ceremony.  Lund Family Center is proud to have nominated them for this award and to continue to partner with them in our efforts to strengthen children and families.

“They’ve transformed their workplace culture to being a really strong community partner. And they bring an enthusiasm to their volunteerism and giving that’s palpable,” says Kitty Bartlett, Annual Giving Coordinator for Lund Family Center who spoke at the awards ceremony on Friday.

To say Hampton Direct supports employee volunteerism is an understatement. An outstanding 80% of their employees volunteer at Chittenden County nonprofits. And over the past two years Hampton Direct has donated more than $25,000 to organizations that make our community a better place to work and live. They’ve given more than $5,000 to Lund Family Center donating goods; financial support, volunteer hours and they’ve sponsored 12 families through their holiday gift giving.

Hampton Direct owners Steve and Jen Heroux have encouraged employee philanthropy. They’ve done everything from passing out $10,000 worth of $100 bills to employees so that employees could in turn give that money to charity, and they’ve organized “Denim Days” where employees donate money to charity in exchange for wearing jeans.

Charlotte Congregational Church nominated for 'Hometown Hero Award'

Lund Family Center is also proud to have nominated two other outstanding organizations for this award as well: Charlotte Congregational Church and Burlington Labs, Inc., for their incredible support and philanthropy.

Charlotte Congregational Church donates countless in-kind donations, including baskets of goodies on Mother’s Day. They volunteer at events, generously share their space with Lund for staff retreats and meeting, and every year they donate backpacks filled with school supplies. This past Holiday Season Charlotte Congregational Church donated more than $3,500 in gifts and gift cards to forty young women and their children.

Burlington Labs, Inc. nominated for 'Hometown Hero Award'

Burlington Labs has supported Lund since 2009. Last year they issued a $50,000 challenge grant to commemorate Lund’s 120 anniversary. They enlisted twenty staff members to volunteer at our Mother’s Day Bike Ride and they formed a riding and fundraising team, which raised $6,090 during the event.

Congratulations to the entire Hampton Direct team and to Charlotte Congregational Church and Burlington Labs for being nominated. We are so pleased to see you recognized for your incredible commitment to our community.
