Volunteer Spotlight: Kristin Heller

Posted in Volunteer Spotlight at 7:00 pm by Lund

Kristin Heller was an intern this past summer in the Development Office at the Lund Family Center.  She is interested in working in the non-profit sector and this position allowed her to gain valuable experience at a prominent non-profit in the Burlington area.  Kristin became interested in a position at Lund because of their longstanding dedication to children and families.  She supported the Development team preparing for the Mad Hatter’s Tea and Bubbly event in June, and also focused on the important grant research and database management.

“Kristin came to Lund with a positive attitude and a willingness to work.” Said Alex Brady, Lund’s Events and Volunteer Coordinator. “She helped with all logistics and planning in this year’s Mad Hatter’s Tea and Bubbly that raised over $35,000. She also volunteered for this event and dressed up in her best whimsical outfit. We hope to get her back for the 3rd Annual Mad Hatter’s in June 2012.”

Kristin is originally from Needham, Massachusetts, and is senior at the University of Vermont. She is majoring in Business Administration with a minor in Recreation Management.  Her concentration is in Human Resources Management but through her studies she has gained a strong passion for working with non-profit organizations.  Kristin is also in the Honors College and is currently working on her thesis researching how corporate social responsibility within an organization effects recruitment.

At the University of Vermont, Kristin is actively involved with the Outing Club.  She is a rock climbing leader and leads up to three trips a semester for fellow students.  In the fall she will be teaching a course through the Outing Club that prepares students to be rock climbing leaders.  This course involves teaching group management as well as basic rock climbing skills.  Last summer, Kristin was a leader for the TREK program that introduces new students to the wilderness of Vermont and upstate New York the week before they begin classes.  She will be a TREK leader this coming August as well.  This past fall Kristin became a member of the Golden Key Honor Society and does various volunteer work with other students in the organization.  She was also inducted as a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society in the spring.
