As construction crews work relentlessly through the summer months at 50 Joy Drive, initiatives to raise the needed $3.5 million for the purchase of and renovations to the facility also press forward. The Capital Campaign Steering Committee has been meeting regularly since the March groundbreaking ceremonies and reports that over $650,000 has been committed though June 30.  In addition, a $225,000 gift-in-kind donation has been made by Pizzagalli Properties which sold the site to Lund.

Melinda Moulton and TJ Donovan serve as Campaign Co-Chairs and former Vermont Governors Howard Dean and Jim Douglas are Honorary Co-Chairs. Steering Committee members are Lund Executive Director Barbara Rachelson MSW, Lisa Pizzagalli, Rick Davis, Barbara Lande Bronfman, Gene and Julie Richards, Meg Smith, Steve Donahue, Cynthia Bernhardt, Nicole LaBrecque, Jeff Small, and Paulette Thabault.

“We are currently focusing on significant leadership gifts, which feature named giving opportunities” says Co-Chair Moulton. “Lund has a wonderful mission and a solid reputation both in Vermont and nationally. During this Campaign, we are asking support from individuals, foundations, and businesses to help put us over the goal.”  The Steering Committee seeks to conclude the Campaign well before 2015, which coincides with the 125th anniversary of Lund’s founding as a maternity home for unwed pregnant mothers.

The 20,000 square foot building at 50 Joy Drive will be the permanent home of Lund programs in adoption, education, and child care, as well as the Parent Child Center.  Consolidating these programs under one roof will save Lund $141,120 annually, the cost currently paid for subpar leased spaces in greater Burlington.

Programmatic benefits derived from the new site will include:

•A safe, secure place for birth mothers to make adoption plans

•A warm, intimate space where adoptive parents receive a new member of their family

•Private rooms for confidential client meetings

•Increased capacity from 30 to 50 children for our Early Learning Child Care Program

•Enhanced technology, including wireless access for our Education Program

•Classrooms for pregnant and parenting women to continue their middle and high

school education or GED, counseling, parenting classes and life skills instruction

•Space at Glen Road, currently used for offices, will be freed up to accommodate more

pregnant and parenting women in our residential program
